- This store is a complete example of holistic sustainable design from the
way in which the Co-op conducts itself as a corporate citizen, interacts
with the community, and promotes a green building programme in the
creation of its stores and offices
- The Ottawa store specifically incorporates construction that facilitates
future reuse and recycling of its materials:
     - exposed timber structural framing has bolted connections and timber
       decks that are screwed down
     - steel structure was reused from the existing one-storey building
originally on the site and reassembled on the second floor with bolted
       connections
     - exposed structure, reduced use of interior finishes, and the assembly
of interior partitions between the retail and office spaces consisted of
movable steel Unistruts with veneered plywood, and fabric panels
       (all components were screwed together)
     - As-built drawings for all disciplines were provided along with Oper-
       ations and Maintenance manuals
     - Components of the building were labelled for future reference
     - Training sessions were provided for senior staff members and
building management on the materials, equipment, and systems
     - It is difficult to determine the additional costs involved with building
for disassembly since some operations are more labour intensive
       for both construction and disassembly
